Zoning Division
As part of the Building & Zoning Division, Zoning was created to promote and protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of the Gahanna Community by enforcing the zoning regulations. The Division works to create code and enforcement solutions to planning, zoning, and development challenges. It is also responsible for approving temporary signs, banners, and fence permits, as well as reviewing all building and development plans. Planning Commission
Planning Commission advises City Council about issues concerning the preparation of plans and maps for the future physical development and harmonious improvements of the city. Planning Commission evaluates all plans, maps and applications for changes to the physical characteristics of Gahanna. In cases dealing with zoning changes, amendments or alterations, Planning Commission acts in an advisory role by submitting a recommendation to City Council on the proper course of action. Planning Commission consists of seven members appointed by City Council and the Mayor.
Planning Commission meets the second and fourth Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers for regular commission meetings. The meetings are the first and third Wednesdays in the months of November and December due to holidays.

Land Use Plan Update
The City of Gahanna has a long tradition of planning. This commitment to planning has helped the City increase its commercial and industrial resources, strengthening the City’s tax base. As the tax base of the City increases, so does the level of services, thus increasing the overall quality of life for both the day and night residents. In 2002, the City updated its land use plan. This updated plan contains a series of policy statements as well as community objectives and supporting principles. This document reflects the City of Gahanna’s commitment to periodically reexamine existing plans and evaluate their effectiveness in addressing previously identified problems and issues. It also incorporates the special studies undertaken since the original 1993 plan and reflects new opportunities and challenges.
The plan provides a vision of the future land use pattern within the City ... a working document aimed at guiding decisions for the various boards and commissions as well as those parties making investments in the future of Gahanna.
