Registration | Current Schedule

Workshops are one-time sessions introducing participants to a specific topic. They change seasonally to reflect the cycle of the herbal year. Consisting of lecture and demo or hands-on activities, Herb Center staff and local guest instructors strive to bring a practical and balanced learning environment to those interested in using herbs in everyday life.

Registration is required at least 48 hours in advance. We reserve the right to cancel classes due to limited enrollment. Workshops are non-refundable.

Classes are held at the Ohio Herb Education Center, 110 Mill Street, unless otherwise listed.


Herbal Tea Circle
Join us for an informal evening of tea and herbal discussion. We will sample a featured tea or blend, and enjoy light refreshment with an herbal twist, spending the hour discussing whatever herbal topics the group is interested in. Tea circle will meet on the third Thursday of each month.

​Spa Day at the Herb Center
The long winter has been hard on the skin and the spirit. Luxurious spa treatments can help soften both, and are easy to create yourself. Come to our annual Spa Day to experience a little pampering, and learn how you can carry it home with you too!

​Herbal Planting for Pollinators
Herbs are good for pollinators too! Gardeners are very concerned about bees and butterflies these days, and with good reason. This class will outline what herbs work best to support pollinator populations, and talk about good garden design to encourage all wildlife! Afterwards we will create a pollinator seed bomb to put in your yard.

​Spring Plant Swap
Join us for our beginning-of-season, clear-out-space-in-your-gardenbeds plant swap! Categories will include bulbs, hostas, peonies, dahlias, daylilies, succulents, and anything else that is taking over your garden space. Drop-off/set-up will start at 2pm, with the swap starting promptly at 2:30. This event is free, but please RSVP to the Herb Center to participate. Open to all ages.

Saturdays in the Garden
Come meet fellow gardeners and learn what Gahanna's Community Gardens are all about. We will discuss the history of community gardening and etiquette and companion planting. Learn about our growing initiative for Gahanna Residents in Need (GRIN) and our tool-sharing shed. Registration is required.

Experiencing the Sensory Garden
Join us for this new family series in which we venture outdoors to explore the herb garden with all of our senses through games and crafts. This class is suited for ages 3-8 and all abilities. Come dressed in clothes suited for the weather, and that you don’t mind getting a little scuffed.

Wild Herb Walks
Beneficial herbs and plants are all around us, and often overlooked as simply “weeds.” Join us on a walk in and around the Parks of Gahanna. Take home the knowledge of what you may be able to discover growing in your back yard! Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to venture on foot. We will also discuss proper wildcrafting etiquette. Pre-registration by Friday noon is required. Meet at the entrance signboards at each park.

High Summer in the Herb Garden
The summer solstice is one of our favorite times in the herb garden! This year, come learn about plant energy cycles, how herbs reflect where they grow, and how you can capture the best of the summer herb garden for yourself!

Saturdays in the Garden
With growing season in full swing, come learn about keeping your garden fruitful. We will be discussing crop rotation, common garden pests and how to drought proof your garden. We'll finish our class by making fairy gardens! Please bring your own container and bring your children, grandchildren, etc. to create a fairy garden. Registration is required.

How many time have you thought “those colorful blooms look good enough to eat!” Join us and find out which ones are. In class, we will explore easy techniques to capture the flavors of the summer flower garden. Recipes provided.

Brooke Sackenheim enjoys teaching people about the traditional medicinal uses of herbs. She has over 10 years experience with herbs, studying with many well-known herbalists and using them in her daily life.
