The Planning Commission is a commission required by Gahanna city charter. Planning Commission evaluates and acts on plans, maps and applications for changes to the physical characteristics of Gahanna and advises City Council about issues concerning the preparation of plans and maps for the future physical development and harmonious improvements of the city. In cases dealing with zoning changes, amendments or alterations, Planning Commission acts in an advisory role by submitting a recommendation to City Council on the proper course of action.
The Planning Commission approves the following applications:
- Final Development Plan
- Preliminary Plat
- Conditional Use Permit
- Design Review
- Home Occupancy Permit
- Flood Plain Use
- Subdivision Without Plat
- Personal Wireless Telecommunications Facilities (Cell Towers)
The Planning Commission makes a recommendation to Council for the following types of applications:
- Final Plat
- Zoning Change
- Code Change
Planning Commission meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers for regular commission meetings. The meetings change to the first and third Wednesdays in the months of November and December due to holidays.
Applications appearing on an agenda are kept on file in the Clerk’s office for review. A resident may come in during normal business hours to review an application or call the Council office at 342-4090 if there is a question.
Regular meetings of the planning commission are structured, formal meetings where proponents and opponents of applications are afforded the opportunity to speak for limited amounts of time. See Planning Commission Rules of Procedure

Workshop meetings are intended to be informal discussions of applications. Members of the public do not always have the opportunity to speak at these meetings, although residents are welcome to attend. It is left to the discretion of the Chair. No formal action is taken at any workshop meeting.
All meetings of the Gahanna Planning Commission are open to the public.
