State Audit Finds City of Gahanna in ‘Good Order’

GAHANNA, Ohio – Ohio State Auditors have taken a look at the City of Gahanna’s 2011 finances and have found them to be accurate and in compliance with standards.

Every year, state auditors examine at the City’s finances to make sure that the financial statements are accurate and give a true and fair view of the city’s income and expenses.

In a statement accompanying the City’s financial reports, Dave Yost, Auditor of State, stated, “In our opinion, the financial statements referred to above present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position of the governmental activities, the business-type activities, each major fund, and the aggregate remaining fund information of the City of Gahanna, Franklin County, Ohio, as of December 31, 2011.”

“These audits are important to us,” said Mayor Becky Stinchcomb. “They allow an outside set of eyes to check and make sure that we are handling the city’s money properly.”

Mayor Stinchcomb believes that being good stewards of tax payers’ money is everyone’s responsibility and said, “This is a team effort. Every member of our staff had a hand in this and I appreciate their dedication and professionalism.”

Finance Director, Jennifer Teal, explained that this audit is a direct reflection on the city’s commitment to taxpayers.

“We understand that we have an obligation to follow very strict standards when dealing with the city’s finances,” Teal said. “This audit serves to reassure the community that we are doing just that.”
