Every year the Urban Deer Hunting Program looks for experienced bow hunters to assist in continuing the success of the program. To participate in the Urban Deer Hunting Program, interested hunters are required to attend an orientation prior to the start of deer hunting season. At the orientation, members from the Gahanna Police Department, the Gahanna Parks Department, as well as a representative from ODNR, discuss the rules and regulations of the program and areas which are available for hunting (see box). This year there were over 250 people that registered and were approved to participate in the 2007-2008 deer hunting season.
This year’s deer hunting season runs from September 29th, 2007 thru February 3rd, 2008. The first weekend of the season was very successful, with seven doe taken from within Gahanna’s city limits. Statistics for the Urban Deer Hunting Program will be updated on a weekly basis as well as the most current car versus deer information.
