Fire Hydrant Flushing to Occur in May

Throughout May, the Mifflin Township Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants in the red region shown on the map below. This is for preventative maintenance and to ensure the hydrants are working properly.

During this process, firefighters will open hydrants and temporarily let water flow from them. While this occurs, you may notice low water pressure and a brief discoloration of the water in your home. If discoloration occurs, run your water for about one minute, after which time the discoloration should disappear.  You should refrain from drinking discolored water or doing laundry with it. We recommend briefly running your laundry machine before putting clothes in it to ensure the water is running as normal. If your water does not return to normal, please call the City’s Utility Supervisor, Jordan Doll, at (614) 342-4426.

Updates on where flushing will occur will be posted to Gahanna.gov and on the City’s Facebook page, as they become available.

City Partners with StreetScan to Assess Road Conditions

April 17, 2023 – Beginning today, you may see vehicles similar to the one pictured above in your neighborhood and on Gahanna streets. The City has partnered with StreetScan to assess road conditions in normal traffic flow. The company’s system utilizes vehicle-mounted technology to determine the health of each street, including curbs and gutters, to identify defects such as potholes, bumps, and excessive cracking. The use of this technology will greatly improve the consistency and accuracy of street ratings to better inform the City’s Street Pavement Program. The ability to capture ratings from a moving vehicle also will increase efficiencies by saving hundreds of hours in staff time and will enable the City’s Engineering Department to coordinate other projects with the Program, allowing us to maximize the investment of Issue 12 dollars.
