Wellbeing Tips from UMR

Creativity is defined as the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality or a result. Creativity impacts your health and wellbeing in positive ways, here are five!

1.    Creativity triggers motivation and happiness. When you’re in a creative “flow state,” your anxiety can be reduced, your mood can lift, and your heart rate slows down.

2.    Creativity benefits your immune system. For example, studies have shown that people who regularly record their thoughts in a journal can boost the functions of their immune system.

3.    Creativity can improve your mental health and overall well-being. Engaging in a creative activity, such as crafts, can help your mind focus, which has powerful calming effects.

4.    Creativity can boost your brain power. One activity improves the connectivity between your left and right brain: playing music. This can improve cognitive function and overall brain health.

5.    Did You Know? Creativity can help reduce the effects of dementia.  While there is currently no cure for dementia, studies have shown that dementia patients benefit from a burst of dopamine, which can be released during periods of creativity.
