The City of Gahanna strives to protect pollinators and encourages residents to do the same. A pollinator is any insect or animal that visits plants and moves pollen. Ultimately, this activity allows the plant to generate seeds that continue the cycle of life for the plant species while yielding fruits, vegetables and nuts consumed by humans and animals alike. Bees, butterflies, beetles, bats, flies, hummingbirds and moths are all pollinators. Pollinators are currently threatened with a loss of habitat and food sources. Gahanna encourages pollinator-friendly habitats to ensure the survival of vital animal species, improve regional food production and stimulate the local economy.
