Drivers will soon see traffic impacts both near and on the Hamilton Road Bridge over I-270 as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) takes the next steps in the much-needed reconstruction of the bridge.
Week of August 12: Weather permitting, ODOT crews will be working on I-270, under the bridge. Southbound traffic on I-270 will be impacted by this work for approximately one week.
Week of August 19: Northbound traffic will be impacted for approximately one week while crews continue their work underneath the bridge. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution in that area and to follow all posted traffic signs.
Beginning Week of August 26: ODOT will begin work on the bridge itself, and Hamilton Road traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions. By the end of that week, the ramp from northbound Hamilton Road to I-270 North will close through April 2025, weather permitting. Drivers will be asked to follow the posted detours as I-270 North will be accessible from Broad Street and U.S. 62. Additionally, traffic on I-270 will again be impacted when the bridge deck is removed in late September 2024.
Future Timeline: Once the northbound lanes are completed, it is projected that the next stage of this project will begin in April 2025, when the ramp from southbound Hamilton Road to I-270 south will close until early September 2025, weather permitting. Drivers again will be asked to follow posted detours, as I-270 South will be accessible from Broad Street and U.S. 62.
At least one lane of traffic on Hamilton Road will remain open in both directions throughout the duration of this project. Drivers in the area will see temporary lane shifts while parts of the project are being completed.
Updates on this project will continue to be shared at Gahanna.gov and on the City’s social media pages as more information is received from ODOT. If you have any questions regarding this project, ODOT can be contacted at (614) 466-7170 or online by filling out the feedback form which can be found HERE.
While we recognize the impacts that will occur during the project, we appreciate ODOT’s significant investment in improving this critical roadway in our city. Thank you for your patience and understanding as work is being done to improve the safety and quality of the bridge.
