SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR BOARDS & COMMISSIONS

Civil Service Commission (Seat 4, Unexpired Term through 12/31/2024)*
 Appointing Authority:
 City Council
Closing Date: December 3, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.; Must be available for possible interview on December 11, 2023 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Description: 

  • The Civil Service Commission consists of five residents appointed to three-year terms by Council or the Mayor. Meetings are held at least once annually in January and then as needed for appeals or other matters. Members are paid $100.00 per meeting.
  • The Civil Service Commission has jurisdiction to hear and decide appeals/grievances from administrative determinations pursuant to the provisions of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations as enacted by Council and the Codified Ordinances and other powers, duties, and functions as provided by ordinance and in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements. 

*Important Note: This position may also require dual service on the city’s Fair Housing Board, which meets at least annually, and is unpaid.
 
Property Appeals Board (Seat 3, Full Term Expiring 12/31/2026)*
 
Appointing Authority:
City Council
Closing Date: December 3, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Must be available for possible interview on December 11, 2023 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Description: 

  • The Property Appeals Board consists of five residents appointed to three-year terms by Council and the Mayor. Meetings are held at least once annually in January and then as needed for appeals or other matters. Board members are not compensated for their service. 
  • The Property Appeals Board shall have jurisdiction to hear and decide appeals when it is alleged that there is an error in any requirement, decision, or determination made by the Designated City Official in the enforcement or administration of Chapter 780: Rental Property Registration & Inspection, Chapter 1308: Nuisance Abatement Code, Section 521.06 - Duty to keep sidewalks and vegetation maintained and Chapter 903 Sidewalk Construction, Maintenance, and Renewal. 

*Important Note: Must be a Ward 3 or Ward 4 resident.

Local Board of Tax Review (Seat 2, Full Term Expiring 12/31/2025) 
 Appointing Authority:
 City Council
Closing Date: December 3, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Must be available for possible interview on December 11, 2023 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Description

  • The Local Board of Tax Review consists of three members. Two members are appointed by the City Council, and may not be employees, elected officials, or contractors with the city at any time during their term or in the five years immediately preceding the date of appointment. The term for members of the Local Board of Tax Review appointed by the City Council is two years. Meetings are held at least once annually and then as needed for appeals or other matters. Board members are not compensated for their service. 
  • The Board is responsible for hearing appeals from taxpayers regarding decisions made by the City’s tax administrator (RITA) and the Director of Finance. Board members must keep information from the tax appeal hearings confidential, remain independent and unbiased in making decisions regarding an appeal, and disclose immediately any conflicts of interest so action may be taken to ensure a fair process.
