Shred & E-Recycle Event

Back by popular demand! Based on feedback from our residents, we added a second Shred & E-Recycle Event, which will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Safely shred important family or household documents and drop off your old cell phones, tablets and more for recycling. Below, find a list of Frequently Asked Questions, including what you will and will not be able to recycle.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? 

Gahanna residents. No businesses. 

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

There is no charge. This is a free event, however GRIN (Gahanna Residents in Need) will be on site to accept any tax deductible monetary and/or food pantry donations. 

HOW MUCH PAPER CAN I BRING?

A limit of five (5) standard-size paper grocery bags or equivalent per vehicle is allowed. 

WHAT ITEMS ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR SHREDDING?

•Family or household documents (such as financial, legal and medical documents)

•Paper with staples, paper clips and/or rubber bands

•Manila folders

WHAT ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR SHREDDING?

•Business records (this includes home businesses)

•Binders

•Notebooks

•Newspapers

•Magazines

•Books

•Phonebooks

•Plastic bags

WILL THE RECORDS BE TAKEN AWAY OR SHREDDED IN THE PARKING LOT?

No on-site shredding will be provided. Due to logistics and time constraints, the City is not able to provide this service. Records will be taken away to the vendor’s facility to be securely shredded. 

WHAT ITEMS ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR ELECTRONIC RECYCLING?

•Consumer Electronics: mobile phones, desktop computers, keyboards, mouses, laptops, LCD/LED monitors, gaming systems, tablets, wearables (watches, headphones, heart rate monitors, etc.), printers and software (CDs, DVDs, floppy disks)

•Data Capturing/Barcode Print Equipment: barcode scanners, mobile terminals, vehicle mount computers, RFID scanners, printers (mobile, thermal, RFID) and consumables (labels, tags, ribbons, etc.)

•Data Center/Networking Equipment: routers, modems, switches, bridges, hubs, servers (rack mount, stand-alone), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), storage equipment (disk arrays, HDDs, data backup systems) and cabling (CAT5, coxial, fiber)

•Retail Equipment: point-of-sale terminals, receipt printers, cash drawers, credit card readers, payment terminals and scales

WHAT ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR ELECTRONIC RECYCLING?

•CRT monitors

•Televisions

•Copiers

•Household appliances

•Light bulbs

CAN I BRING ANYTHING ELSE?

The City cannot accept anything else, but you can click HERE to learn more regarding proper disposal of other items such as household hazardous waste and medications. 

WILL ANYONE BE ABLE TO HELP ME UNLOAD MY CAR? 

Yes, people will be on hand to unload items. 

WHAT IF I CANNOT COME BETWEEN 9 A.M. AND 12 P.M.? 

Due to vendor availability, the City cannot accept any items before 9 a.m. and cannot accept any new cars to enter the event after 12:00 p.m. 

WHAT IF IT RAINS? 

The event will be held rain or shine. However, if there is lightning, the event will be suspended for safety reasons. The City is not able to reschedule. 

HOW CAN I HELP GIVE BACK?

Gahanna Residents in Need (GRIN) will be collecting canned goods, non-perishable food, toiletries and monetary/gift card donations during the event. They especially need toilet paper. GRIN cannot accept expired items.
