Since 2004, Joneswear Screen Printing has proven that small business success is dependent upon meaningful community engagement. Located at 979 E. Johnstown Road, this black-owned business has experienced significant growth throughout the pandemic.

“For the past seven years, my business has been in Gahanna. Because I’m centrally located near the airport and surrounding communities, I get new walk-in customers every week. I was so lucky to find this spot and quickly partner with Gahanna’s great schools,” shared Mike Jones, owner of Joneswear.

Like many entrepreneurs, Jones was motivated by his children to start his business. Originally from the outskirts of Atlanta, Jones worked 18 years as a network engineer. Jones studied business administration and computer science at Franklin University, where he obtained the key skills to forge ahead as a successful entrepreneur.

“My business started in my home and has grown incrementally. This approach enabled me to take smart risks and make wise investments to serve my customers. With five full-time employees, I’m exploring ways to continue expanding my footprint and service suite,” explained Jones.

For nearly twenty years, Jones has actively worked with local schools in Gahanna and New Albany to create equitable opportunities for students to wear coveted lettermen jackets and associated apparel that increases their self-worth.

“I have offered 15% discounts to the Gahanna public schools and booster clubs along with providing full donations of apparel to local youth organizations. The cultural value of this apparel really raises the self-esteem of our local youth, and all students should have access to this symbolic clothing,” said Jones.

With over 200 clients, Joneswear Screen Printing recently launched branding, marketing and photography services. The dramatic, nationwide growth of entrepreneurs during the pandemic generated service needs that perfectly matched Joneswear’s new offerings.

“In an effort to offer more comprehensive services for home-grown businesses, Joneswear refocused on supporting local entrepreneurs. However, I can still support the needs of my larger clients, including Kroger,” said Jones.

Joneswear recently designed new branding for Gahanna-area businesses, including The Golf Depot and Healthy Day Nutrition.

“I’ve got big plans. I’d like to double my footprint to anticipate the needs of our growing customer base. I’ve also shaped a curriculum to support young entrepreneurs with screen printing, marketing, and branding. Because so many kids are starting their own businesses, I want to share valuable techniques with area schools to give young entrepreneurs a great foundation,” shared Jones.
