Mayor's Office

Coming in September 2024 – Gahanna Citizens Academy!

The Citizens Academy is a six-week program that offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at how our local government functions. The program will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday for six weeks, beginning in September.

Each week, residents will be introduced to a different facet of local government, including public safety, city operations, economic development, planning, and city finances. The program is designed to increase communication, build positive relationships, connect with residents, and inspire future government leaders and volunteers. Classes are interactive and will include activities such as touring facilities, trying equipment, demonstrations, and other hands-on fun.

Applications will open in August and will be published on Gahanna.gov and on the City’s social media pages. For more details, go to https://www.Gahanna.gov/587/Citizens-Academy.

City Council's Office

The City Council Office is proud to announce a project underway to preserve, index and make accessible Gahanna’s historic Village Council records (1881-1970). These books include Gahanna’s earliest ordinances, minutes, and resolutions. Staff partnered with ScanWorks to professionally digitize the records and is now indexing them and uploading the scans to Gahanna.gov, making them accessible to the public. Residents can read minutes from the 1800s in officials’ own handwriting!

This project is supported in part by an award from the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board (OHRAB), through the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), National Archives and Records Administration.

To access uploaded minutes, both historical and recent, go to: https://gahanna.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx

Please contact Sophia McGuire, Deputy Clerk of Council, at (614) 342-4092 or by email at Sophia.McGuire@Gahanna.gov with any questions. A special thank you goes to McGuire and to Council Office intern Charlie Schneider for spearheading the project!

Hamilton Road Bridge Construction

ODOT has started work on reconstruction of the Hamilton Road bridge over I-270. The project is expected to last through Summer 2025.  Details on the project will be updated at Gahanna.gov as they become available.

Taylor Station and Claycraft Roads Roundabout

Construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Taylor Station and Claycraft Roads has begun. The roundabout will ease congestion on this major corridor in the City’s industrial zone. This project is expected to be concluded later this year and is being funded in part by a grant received from the Ohio Public Works Commission. Businesses in the area will remain open while this work is underway. Detours can be found online, click here for information.   Additional details will be shared at Gahanna.gov.

Administrative Services

The City of Gahanna was one of 14 entities across the Nation selected to host a Veterans Local Government Management Fellow (VLGMF). In July, the City hosted VLGMF Christopher Isbill through the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge Program and International City/County Management Association. The VLGMF program offers Army participants a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the intricacies of managing municipal operations. The SkillBridge program is an invaluable initiative designed to support service members transitioning from military service to civilian careers. Participation in these programs underscores Gahanna’s commitment to excellence in governance and our ongoing efforts to foster a deeper understanding of city management practices.

Public Safety

Please join us in congratulating Gahanna Officer Kaylea Pertz on her new role as Community Liaison Officer.  A six-year veteran of the Gahanna Division of Police, Officer Pertz assumed her new role in June when Officer Kelie Moffitt retired from the Division after 28 years in public safety, 22 of which were spent serving the Gahanna community. Officer Pertz has already attended many community events in her new role, which included spending time with some of Gahanna’s summer campers – reading books and answering their questions as part of the Starfish Assignment. Please say hello to Officer Pertz when you see her around town!

Public Service

In partnership with our friends at SWACO (Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio), the City held its first Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on June 22 at Headley Park.  A total of 659 cars dropped off household items for safe disposal, such as old paint, tires, household chemicals, electronics, batteries and more; adding to our continued efforts to provide environment-friendly programs for our residents.

Did you know that SWACO offers disposal services for household hazardous waste products year-round as well?  Check out their website HERE for drop-off information.

SAVE THE DATE!  Back by popular demand!  Based on feedback from our residents, we are adding a second Shred Event for the year on Saturday, September 14. More details to come, on Gahanna.gov!
