The City Attorney is the legal advisor of and attorney and counsel for the City, and for all officers and departments thereof in matters relating to their official duties. The City Attorney prosecutes or defends all suits for and on behalf of the City, and prepares all contracts, bonds, and other written instruments concerning the City. The City Attorney is also the prosecuting attorney for the City, handling all misdemeanor and traffic offenses committed in the City through Mayor’s Court or the Franklin County Municipal Court.
Priya Tamilarasan was sworn in as the fourth elected Gahanna City Attorney on January 2, 2024. She is the first woman and first person of color to ever serve in this position.
Attorney Tamilarasan has been a practicing attorney in the Central Ohio area for the past 13 years, devoting her career to helping people overcome adversity in what is generally the worst time in their life. Her experience in Family Law and Criminal Defense has provided her the foundation and perspective to make people the priority.
